Susan Pederson Connor

President

Susan (Susie) Connor is the current Zeta Tau Alpha Central Florida Alumnae Chapter President . She graduated from Morehead State University (1972) in Morehead, Kentucky, with dual degrees in Clothing and Textiles and Business, with a minor in Foods and Nutrition. Susie was inducted into ZTA - Zeta Rho Chapter in 1971. After graduation, Susie pursued the Commonwealth of Kentucky to head up their Kentucky Infant and Preschool Project (KIPP). Following this time, she worked for several years in nutrition, including 10 years with the Dairy and Nutrition Council in Akron, Ohio and about 5 years as the Gourmet Food Buyer for May Co in Cleveland, Ohio. While living in Ohio, Susie was active with the Cleveland East Zeta Alumnae chapter, serving as secretary and program chair. After moving to Orlando, she worked with the Orlando Chamber of Commerce, part-time at Rosemont Country Club and perfected her ice-skating skills. (Yes, there was a fantastic rink at that time). Susie moved back to the Cleveland area to care for her mother during her last years and decided to return to school and obtain her Interior Design degree. After completing an internship in Kitchen and Bath Planning, she remained with the company for several years before moving to a full-service design and furniture store in Chagrin Falls. She remained there until the store closed, she got married and moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Once in Milwaukee, Susie ventured out on her own as Designs for Living and traveled with her husband, a corporate pilot. Three years ago, Mark and Susie moved back to Florida, living in Harbor Hills, Lady Lake. Susie has become a Master Gardener with Lake County Extension and enjoys spending time in the Discovery Garden Herb Garden and Greenhouse and her own gardens. She also enjoys traveling, reading and handwork, including jewelry making and needlepoint.

Patricia Sammons York

Vice President Programming

Pat York is the current Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA) Central Florida Alumnae Chapter Vice President Programming. A graduate of Lock Haven University (1973), located in Lock Haven Pennsylvania, Pat was inducted into the ZTA – Zeta Nu Chapter in 1970. After graduating from college, Pat moved to Erie, Pennsylvania to teach exceptional education at the Gertrude Barber Center. In 1985 she moved to Ocala, Florida with her two children, Kristin and Danny. There she continued teaching exceptional education students ultimately becoming the Dean of Students at Maplewood Elementary where she retired in 2009 after 25 years. She works part-time as the Regional Program Coordinator for Arts4All Florida, a state organization focusing on cultural arts for children and adults with disabilities. She has three grandchildren, Riley (15), Emmy (4), and Batey (1). When she’s not chasing the grand kids around, Pat enjoys traveling abroad, playing tennis and kayaking.

Alice Warner Shumlas

Alice is a founding member and past president of the Steel City Alumnae Chapter in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Married to her husband, Stephen for 50 years, Alice has one daughter and one granddaughter. She has an extensive educational background with degrees from West Virginia Wesleyan College, Penn State, and the University of Pittsburgh. A long time healthcare professional and registered dietitian, Alice (at age 40) made the decision to leave this career and pursue a law degree. As General Counsel in Pennsylvania, she won a case in the Supreme Court establishing precedent for regulating all health care facilities. Alice is a retired member of the Pennsylvania and West Virginia State Bar Associations and has been a speaker at the Pennsylvania and national conventions of the American Dietetic Association.

Kathleen Timcho

Vice President Finance

Kathleen Timcho was initiated into Zeta Tau Alpha (Eta Iota chapter) in January 1975. She was her Pledge Class president at Valdosta State College. With 7 other siblings at home, Kathleen worked her entire time at college. After four years, Kathleen moved to Atlanta to pursue a career as a legal secretary, where she met and married her husband. In 2020, Kathleen retired. They have been married 42 years and have 3 children and 4 grandchildren (all girls). Kathleen and her husband have spent over 20 years serving with a “construction mission team” at their church which consisted of travelling to various states and helping churches build family life centers, Sunday school rooms and even sanctuaries. Kathleen’s passion for walking and raising funds and awareness for breast cancer began during the time that her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. Kathleen took her sister to almost every chemo, radiation and oncology appt from 2007 until she died in October 2019. October 2023 will be Kathleen’s 13th year of walking 30 miles in two days for this cause. Fast forward to August 2020, Kathleen and Mike moved to The Villages, FL, at the encouragement of her parents who had lived in The Villages for over 25 years. They joined First Baptist of Leesburg (Village Park) and currently cook and serve dinner for their church family on Wednesdays. Today you can find Kathleen travelling partime for trial work as a legal secretary for her previous law firm, volunteering in her neighborhood as a first responder and serving at the Benevolent Center at First Baptist of Leesburg. Kathleen loves to bake, walk and visit with her grandchildren.

Jan Oechslin Schumacher

Co Vice President Communication

Jan Schumacher is a founding member, past President, and current Co Vice President Communication of the Central Florida Alumnae Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha. She was initiated into the Delta Beta Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha at Florida Southern College (Lakeland, FL) in 1975. After graduating from Florida Southern College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, Jan moved to Daytona Beach, FL where she began her career as an Accountant at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. From there she moved on to become the Controller for United Way of Volusia County. As a seasoned Accountant with an interest in Computer Science, Jan decided to enroll in a Technical School to gain the knowledge necessary to pursue a career in Information Technology. Her first position in Information Technology was as a Senior Applications Programmer with Orange County Public Schools in Orlando, FL supporting their Financial Systems. In Orlando, Jan met her husband, Roch and they married in 1987. She began working for ElectriCities of North Carolina as a Systems Analyst after her husband was transferred to Raleigh, NC. In 1990, Jan and her husband moved back to Orlando, FL and Jan took a position in Information Technology with the American Automobile Association Headquarters in Heathrow, FL. After many years with AAA, she was hired as a Senior Systems Analyst in Information Technology at Darden Restaurants in Orlando, FL supporting the company Human Resources, Benefits Administration, and Payroll systems. Jan, Roch, and their pet cats moved to Lake Weir, FL after retiring. She currently serves as the Webmaster for the Ocala Sailing Club. Jan has a passion for photography, plays the piano and guitar, and enjoys boating, sailing, and travel.
